Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air to dry the environment more quickly. Using a commercial dehumidifier in a controlled space will significantly increase the drying speed. A dehumidifier will make water damage restoration work more efficient, especially when used in combination with an air mover.

LGR vs. Conventional Dehumidifiers

LGR dehumidifiers use a double cooling system to create lower temperatures within the piece of equipment to increase the amount of condensation, this increases the amount of water removed from the air. These are an excellent choice for severe water damage restoration, since they work faster and remove greater amounts of moisture quickly.

Conventional dehumidifiers also condense the water in the air to remove moisture, but since they do not feature the double cooling system, they remove less moisture than LGR models. Conventional dehumidifiers also tend to be less expensive and more portable than LGR models. Choosing the right type of equipment for your restoration job can affect your efficiency and profit margin.

When deciding on the right dehumidifiers to purchase, you’ll want to consider the following factors:

  • Size — The size of the unit will determine where it can be most effective. AHAM vs Saturation Ratings for Dehumidifiers

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers provides a rating system to make it easy for you to compare different models of dehumidifiers. For AHAM ratings, equipment is tested at 60 percent humidity and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which is considered “average” conditions. AHAM ratings are reported in Pints per Day (PPD), and these represent the amount of moisture a dehumidifier can remove from the air in typical temperature and humidity conditions.

Many dehumidifiers also have a saturation rating. The saturation rating evaluates use in more extreme environmental conditions than AHAM ratings. Saturation is measured at 90 percent humidity and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. This rating represents a dehumidifier’s maximum water removing capabilities and is also reported in PPD.

Commercial HEPA Air Scrubbers

HEPA air filters remove tiny particles from the air, particles as small as .003 microns.
