Flood Damage Drying Equipment February 16, 2016 – Posted in: Trade Tips

Clean up after a flood can seem like a daunting task. But it is not impossible. After you have made sure the circuits in the affected area are turned off and remove as much of the excess water as you can, you will want to work quickly to dry the space. Doing this will not only save your carpets or floorboards, but it will also prevent the growth or spread of mold spores. The fastest way to dry the area is by using a commercial air blower, a machine that pushes concentrated air over the surface of where it is directed. There are a few different types of air movers available.

Centrifugal Air Movers

These air blowers work by blowing directly over the surface of where the machine is placed. They are available with either two or three speeds. Some can even be adjusted to different angles, which makes them great for either floorboards or carpeting.

Axial Air Movers

Axial air blowers are larger fans that have the capability to dry a broader range of space. Similar to centrifugal air movers, they have multiple speeds and some can be adjusted to different angles. These types of air movers can be directed to dry not only carpets and floors, but walls and furniture as well.

Downdraft Air Movers

A downdraft air blower works at only one angle, down. It takes the air above it and forces it down over the area in which it is placed. These machines are capable of drying large areas in as little as twenty to thirty minutes.

Low Profile Air Movers

These machines are small air blowers that are similar to the centrifugal air movers. As their name suggests, they work low to the ground, releasing high-pressure air directly over the surface of where they are placed. Being lighter than most other air blowers, they are easily moved from place to place as needed. As they are small and low to the ground, they are ideal for getting under cabinets and other hard to reach places.

Flood clean up may at first seem to be a major headache. With the right air blower, however, the restoration process can go quickly and you can save your home from suffering any major damages.
